SRINAGAR: A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in New Delhi on Tuesday sentenced Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi to life imprisonment, while her associates Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen were awarded 30 years in prison each in a 2018 Kashmir secession conspiracy case.

The sentencing follows their conviction in January 2026 under multiple provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code by the trial court at Karkardooma, Delhi.

According to an NIA statement, the three were found guilty of operating the proscribed Dukhtaran-e-Millat organisation to promote the secession of Jammu and Kashmir from India. Andrabi, the outfit’s founder and chairperson, received life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 8 lakh, while Fehmeeda and Nasreen were each sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment with fines of Rs 7 lakh.

The agency said the accused were arrested in July 2018 after a suo motu case was registered in April that year. Investigations, based on material including social media content, videos and interviews, established their alleged involvement in supporting and advancing the outfit’s activities.

The NIA further stated that the trio used public and digital platforms to spread messages aimed at inciting unrest and promoting separatist ideology, posing a threat to the country’s security and sovereignty.
