SRINAGAR: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Information Technology Department and Samagra Shiksha, has launched the Mega Aadhaar Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) Drive 2.0 across the Union Territory.
The drive commenced on March 23 in winter zone schools, while institutions in summer zones will begin the exercise from April 1. The initiative aims to cover 2,382 identified schools and facilitate Aadhaar biometric updates for over two lakh students within school premises.
Officials said the campaign is a continuation of the earlier MBU drive conducted between September and December 31, 2025, during which nearly 1.5 lakh students updated their biometric details. However, with around 3.5 lakh children still requiring mandatory updates, authorities have opted for a renewed mission-mode approach.
The earlier drive followed UIDAI’s integration with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) platform of the Union Department of School Education and Literacy. The integration enabled real-time tracking of students’ biometric update status at the school level, allowing targeted identification of those pending updates and facilitating on-site camps.
Officials underscored that updating biometric details in children’s Aadhaar is essential for seamless authentication while availing benefits under government schemes, scholarships and other services. It also helps ensure smooth registration for competitive and university entrance examinations.
Parents have been advised to stay in close coordination with school authorities to track the schedule of Aadhaar update camps and to ensure that details in school records match those in Aadhaar to avoid discrepancies.
