SRINAGAR: No confirmed sighting of the crescent moon has been reported from any part of Jammu and Kashmir so far, Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said on Thursday evening.

The development comes amid widespread cloud cover and inclement weather across the region, which has significantly hampered visibility. The sighting of the crescent moon is crucial for marking the end of Ramadan and determining the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Grand Mufti said weather conditions remain unfavourable, with dense clouds persisting over most parts of the Valley, making moon sighting difficult. “There has been no confirmed report of moon sighting from any area so far,” he said, adding that observers have been asked to continue monitoring the skies.

He urged people to wait until 8:30 pm, after which a final announcement regarding the moon sighting will be made. Scholars noted that such situations are not uncommon, particularly when weather conditions interfere with visibility during the brief window after sunset.
