Srinagar, Mar 17: National Conference (NC) senior leader and Member of Parliament Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan today raised serious concerns in Parliament regarding Indian nationals stranded in Gulf countries, including businessmen, workers and pilgrims, as well as students from Jammu & Kashmir pursuing education abroad. He urged the Government of India to take immediate steps to ensure their safety and security and, where necessary, facilitate their relocation to safer places.

During his address, he strongly condemned the assassination of Iran’s supreme and spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and criticized the unilateral attack by the United States and Israel on the sovereign nation of Iran.

He also stated that the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and its President Dr. Farooq Abdullah have strongly condemned the unilateral attack by the United States and Israel on the Iran, as well as the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He noted that Dr. Abdullah described the attack as unjust and a violation of the sovereignty of an independent nation. He further conveyed that the party stands in solidarity with the people of Iran in this moment of grief, extending heartfelt condolences.

He also reminded the House of India’s longstanding and principled support for the Palestinian cause, particularly during the leadership of Yasir Arafat and the Palestine Liberation Organization. He noted that India was the first non-Arab country to recognize the PLO as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people in 1974, later granting it full diplomatic status reflecting India’s historic commitment to the Palestinian cause.

He stated that India has traditionally stood for moderation, non-alignment and a balanced foreign policy rooted in justice and dialogue. However, he expressed concern that an unfortunate shift appears to have taken place, alleging support for a country that has caused large-scale civilian casualties in Gaza, where over 70,000 people have been killed, including children, journalists, health workers , UN Peace keepers and NGO personnel.

Several Members across parties associated themselves with the speech and sentiments expressed by Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan, reflecting broad support for the concerns he raised. Prominent leaders include Sonia Gandhi (INC), Digvijaya Singh (INC), Derek O’ Brien (TMC), Jaya Bachchan (SP), and Sanjay Singh (AAP), and Priyanka Chaturvedi (Shiv Sena) along with other members from DMK, CPI, NCP, BJD and the UDF.
