SRINAGAR: More than 200 stranded passengers were rescued from Sinthan Pass in Anantnag district after heavy snowfall disrupted movement in the high-altitude area, officials said.
According to Indian army officials, braving incessant snowfall, treacherous terrain and extremely low visibility, troops of Indian Army’s 19 Rashtriya Rifles along with Jammu and Kashmir Police (Anantnag) carried out a joint rescue operation at the mountain pass.
Officials said despite harsh weather conditions and slippery roads, the teams successfully evacuated 214 stranded tourists and local civilians and ensured their safe movement to secure locations. (KNC)
