Food Safety Team Conducts Inspections in Srinagar Markets, Issues Advisory to Food Operators

Srinagar: The Food Safety Team Srinagar on Wednesday conducted extensive market inspections across several commercial hubs of the city, including Karanagar, Balgarden and Residency Road, to ensure compliance with food safety and public health standards.

During the inspections, officials reviewed the functioning of various food establishments and sensitised Food Business Operators (FBOs) about the importance of adhering to the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and the regulations framed under it.

The team issued strict directions to FBOs to ensure that their operations remain fully aligned with the legal framework governing food safety. Emphasis was laid on maintaining proper sanitation and hygiene at food premises to prevent contamination and ensure the safety of consumers.

Officials also instructed food handlers and staff to maintain high standards of personal hygiene while preparing, processing and serving food items.

Besides, food business operators were encouraged to improve their storage facilities and strengthen waste disposal mechanisms to meet the prescribed food safety standards.

The Food Safety Team cautioned that any lapse in maintaining hygiene or violation of the Food Safety Act would attract strict legal action, including imposition of heavy fines and suspension of business licences.
