Srinagar, Mar 4: The aspirants of teaching positions at Kashmir University (KU) have urged the varsity administration to initiate the process for early re-advertisement of backlog teaching positions that remained unfilled from the 2023 recruitment notification.

A group of scholars told Greater Kashmir that the varsity initiated direct recruitment of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors in 2023.

“But a significant number of teaching positions advertised in 2023 could not be processed to completion, as interviews for these posts were not conducted,” the aspirants told Greater Kashmir. The aspirants said that upon approaching the concerned officials in recruitment section of the Varsity, they were informed that life of advertisement remains valid for two years as per University norms and backlog vacancies will be advertised afresh.

“So we urge the competent authority to kindly consider initiating the process of re-advertising these backlog positions at the earliest,” the aspirants said. The aspirants said their submission was guided by a collective concern for academic continuity, departmental strengthening and student welfare.

“Many departments at KU are functioning with limited faculty strength, which inevitably increases workload and affects research productivity, mentoring, and academic innovation. Filling these vacancies at the earliest will significantly enhance teaching-learning processes and research output,” they said.

The aspirants said that adequate faculty strength ensures timely completion of syllabi, effective supervision of research scholars and improved academic rankings. “Several candidates who had applied earlier were awaiting interviews with hope and confidence in the University’s transparent system. A fresh advertisement will provide them—and other eligible scholars—an opportunity to participate in the selection process and present themselves before the duly constituted selection committee,” they said. They said that timely recruitment not only strengthens departments but also enhances morale among scholars, research aspirants and the broader academic fraternity who look up to the University as a beacon of opportunity and meritocracy. A top KU official told Greater Kashmir that the validity of the expert panel expired as it was valid for only two year. “The file has been submitted to the office of Chancellor for approval to have a panel of experts. Once the file is approved, we will initiate the recruitment process,” he said.

The official said the validity of the recruitment advertisement was also valid for only two years. “Once we will get a fresh panel of experts, we will re-advertise the posts and start the process. Those who have already applied, their candidature stands valid,” he said.
