LG Sinha addresses 21st Kashmir University convocation on Thursday, February 26, urging graduates to prioritise nation-building

In his address, the Lieutenant Governor congratulated the graduating students and exhorted them to chart a clear path for their future, emphasising the mantra: “One purpose. One priority—Country first.” He noted that nations rise not only through resources but through educated citizens, adding, “When the nation rises, so do you.”

Highlighting the transformative role of education Sinha said the University of Kashmir stands as a symbol of generational progress, fulfilled aspirations, and youth’s faith in modern learning. “The knowledge earned here is not merely skill; it fosters holistic growth, builds self-confidence, and moulds responsible citizens,” he said, underlining that education reshapes lives, families, and the nation.

The Lieutenant Governor stressed that universities should evolve beyond custodians of knowledge into centres of innovation, human development, and social transformation. He called for closer collaboration between academia and industry to build a “Viksit Bharat”, integrating research, innovation, and skill development.

Speaking on emerging technologies, Sinha noted the rapid pace of change in the digital era, artificial intelligence, and global realignments. “Careers prepared for today may morph tomorrow. The youth who combine critical thinking, core knowledge, and lifelong learning will surge ahead,” he said. He emphasised the ethical use of technology, noting AI’s growing role across healthcare, agriculture, finance, governance, and urban planning.

Outlining key priorities for faculty, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted adaptability, integration of AI with human intelligence, and global, interdisciplinary collaboration. He stressed the need for cross-disciplinary teamwork to meet modern challenges and achieve India’s development goals by 2047.

Sinha also lauded the performance of female students, noting that of 239 gold medals awarded, 186 were won by daughters, and of 164 PhDs, 108 were earned by women. “This demonstrates that when daughters are given opportunity and encouragement, they do not just participate—they lead, excel, and set new standards,” he said.

The convocation also saw the release of the University of Kashmir’s institutional profile. The ceremony was attended by Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister; Sakina Itoo, Minister for Higher Education; Prof Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University; vice-chancellors of various universities; HoDs; senior civil and police officials; faculty members; students; and their parents.
