SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary told the Legislative Assembly that preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed 8-km tunnel at Razdan Pass in Bandipora district will commence shortly.
Replying to a question from legislator Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi), he said the tunnel project is intended to provide all-weather connectivity to the strategically important border constituency of Gurez.
The Deputy Chief Minister informed the House that construction of the Razdan Pass tunnel has been endorsed by the Ministry of Defence to facilitate round-the-year access.
He added that regular snow clearance is currently undertaken by Project BEACON to maintain connectivity to the Gurez sector. However, the road remains closed for nearly a month and partially shut during winter due to heavy snowfall and safety concerns for road users.
