SRINAGAR: The Supreme Court Collegium, has recommended the elevation of Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, as a judge of the Supreme Court.

Justice Palli is currently also holding additional charge as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Born on September 18, 1964 in Patiala, Punjab, Justice Palli belongs to a distinguished legal family. His father, Justice Prem Kishan Palli, served as a judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, while his grandfather and great-grandfather were prominent lawyers in Patiala.

He completed his graduation in Commerce and obtained his LLB. degree from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 1988. He began legal practice at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where he developed extensive experience across civil, criminal, constitutional, revenue, industrial and labour law.

Justice Palli served as Additional Advocate General for Punjab from 2004 to 2007 and was designated Senior Advocate in 2007. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in December 2013 and was appointed a permanent judge in 2014.

During his judicial career, he has held several key positions, including Executive Chairman of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority and member of the governing body of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

He was sworn in as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh on April 16, 2025.
