Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Finance portfolio, on Friday announced a full waiver of school fees for students from Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families and the provision of six free LPG cylinders annually for AAY households.
Presenting the Budget for 2026-27 in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said the measures were designed to provide direct relief to the poorest sections of society and reduce financial pressure related to education and household energy needs.
Under the education initiative, all students belonging to AAY families and studying in government schools will be exempted from paying any kind of fee, ensuring uninterrupted access to basic education.
In another major welfare step, the government will provide six LPG cylinders free of cost every year to AAY households, aimed at easing cooking fuel expenses and improving living standards.
