Kupwara: The Indian Army on Wednesday observed the 10th Armed Forces Veterans Day at Drugmulla in Kupwara, paying tribute to the courage, sacrifice and selfless service of the nation’s veterans.
Armed Forces Veterans Day is commemorated annually on January 14 to mark the superannuation of India’s first Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, and to honour the contributions of personnel who have served the country with distinction.
The programme was organised by the Indian Army and attended by Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shri Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, as the Chief Guest. Senior civil and military officers, war veterans, Veer Matas, Veer Naris and several Gallantry Award recipients also participated.
Despite harsh weather conditions prevailing across the Kashmir Valley, the event recorded an impressive turnout, underscoring the enduring spirit of the armed forces community. Approximately 500 veterans and 20 Veer Naris were present on the occasion.
The celebration not only honoured veterans but also focused on addressing their welfare concerns. Officials briefed the gathering on various Central and State Government welfare schemes, while efforts were made to facilitate the resolution of pending issues concerning veterans and their families.
To provide on-the-spot support, facilitation counters were set up by the Community Service Centre, ECHS, Zila Sainik Board, Military Hospital, JAKLI Records Office and several banking institutions.
Deputy Commissioner Suse felicitated the veterans and Veer Naris, expressing gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring continued assistance to veterans and their families.
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the nation’s collective respect for the Armed Forces and a pledge to honour and uphold the legacy of its veterans.
