
SRINAGAR: Students from Gujjar–Bakerwal hostels across the Winter Zone have recorded a strong performance in the recently declared Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) Class 10 and Class 12 examinations, with high pass percentages and a large number of distinctions.
Official data show that 147 students from Gujjar–Bakerwal hostels appeared in the Class 10 examinations, of whom 136 qualified, registering an overall pass percentage of 92 per cent. As many as 30 students secured distinctions. Several hostels, including GB Hostel Budgam, Boys Hostel Pulwama, Girls Hostel Srinagar, Boys Hostel Kupwara, Kishtwar (Chatroo) and Doda, achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.
The Class 12 results were also encouraging, with 83 of the 94 students who appeared clearing the examination, reflecting an overall pass percentage of 88.29 per cent. A total of 38 students earned distinctions. Hostels in Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, Bandipora, Girls Hostel Srinagar and Kupwara recorded a 100 per cent success rate, with Girls Hostel Srinagar alone producing 16 distinction holders.
Jammu and Kashmir Tribal Affairs Minister Javed Ahmed Rana congratulated the successful students, particularly those from tribal communities, and praised the role of hostel wardens and staff in mentoring and supporting the students. He said the results highlighted the impact of welfare measures aimed at improving educational outcomes among Gujjar–Bakerwal students.
The Minister extended special congratulations to Saira Noor of the GB Girls Hostel, Srinagar, who secured 99.20 per cent marks and an outstanding position in the JKBOSE Class 10 examination. He described her achievement as an inspiration for the Gujjar–Bakerwal community, especially for young girls.
Rana reaffirmed the Omar Abdullah-led government’s commitment to further strengthening hostel infrastructure and academic support systems to promote the overall development of tribal students.
