GCC seeks overall review, rationalisation of Reservation Rules

Srinagar, Jan 7: The Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC) J&K has supported the Cabinet proposal on increasing share of open merit candidates under reservation rules. In a statement, the Group appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to ” expedite approval” to the Resolution of Cabinet/Council of Ministers for increase in the percentage earmarked for “Open Merit” in the Reservation Rules?

The move, it said in a statement, “represents a first small , yet important, step towards correcting injustice to Open Merit”.

Further, it urged the government to take an overall review of an entire reservation regime, in due course, to broadly align it with that obtaining in the Central Government and institutions while factoring in J&K-specific geo-spatial and socio-economic variations? The statement referred to a “detailed Memorandum in this behalf submitted to Chief Minister on February 21, 2025 “. The GCC is also of the view that political parties and civil society groups in support of justice to “Open Merit” should consider coming togetether in furtheing a common cause in the interest of justice and fairplay, it further added.
