SRINAGAR: Police in central kashmir’s Srinagar district on Sunday carried out citywide inspections of medical shops, chemists and pharmacies as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security measures and ensure transparency and accountability within health-related institutions.

Officials said the inspections were aimed at preventing the misuse of medical shops for unauthorised storage of illegal or hazardous materials and to rule out the use of such establishments for unlawful activities. The drive, police said, is part of routine vigilance measures being undertaken in view of the prevailing security scenario in the city.

During the inspections, police teams thoroughly examined medicines, medical equipment, cash books and other related records. Shop owners were reminded to strictly adhere to safety protocols and maintain all mandatory documentation required under law.

Police verified the proper maintenance of stock and sales records, identity verification procedures followed for purchasers, compliance with security-related guidelines, and the validity of licences issued to the establishments. Officials said adherence to regulatory norms was closely checked at each location.

Shopkeepers were briefed about the need for heightened vigilance and were urged to immediately report any suspicious transactions or activities to the police. They were also advised to ensure complete transparency in their operations to avoid legal complications.

Police said such inspections will continue on a regular basis across Srinagar as part of sustained efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for the public. [KNT]
