SRINAGAR: National Conference leader and Rajya Sabha MP Chowdhary Mohd Ramzan on Monday said the elected government in Jammu and Kashmir has been left with “no powers”, insisting that all “authority” lies with the Lieutenant Governor.

Delivering his maiden address in the Upper House after being elected, the MP, according to Kashmir News Observer, said that despite the October 2024 elections and the formation of a new government, it was not being allowed to function independently.

“Our government has nothing in its hands. All the power is in the hands of the LG. Orders flow from there,” he said.

He questioned the relevance of an elected dispensation “if it has no powers to work”.

Ramzan said the people of Jammu and Kashmir had given a strong mandate, but voiced concern that elected representatives were not in full control of decision-making. (KNO)
