SRINAGAR: Traffic Police Srinagar on Thursday launched a special drive outside SMHS Hospital to clear the stretch leading to the OPD, which remains routinely congested due to wrong parking despite a designated parking facility in the vicinity.

The drive was led by SSP Traffic City Srinagar Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, who told Kashmir News Observer that the operation aimed to ensure unhindered access for patients and ambulances.

“We have launched this drive to lift all wrongly parked vehicles so that the area remains open and accessible,” SSP Bhat said, adding that the approach road to the OPD side frequently gets choked due to vehicles stopping along the roadside.

He said the focus of the action is corrective rather than punitive, with the objective of reclaiming space for patients and attendants. “SMHS is a critical hospital with heavy footfall every day. We intend to create space for patients and ambulances, not to harass anyone. We have coordinated with the hospital administration to streamline entry and parking,” he said.

The officer added that similar drives will be carried out in other high-congestion pockets of Srinagar to maintain smooth traffic flow and curb misuse of road space.
