
SRINAGAR: Two women artisans from Bhaderwah have brought major recognition to Doda district after securing top honours at the UT Level Handicrafts Artisans Awards 2024–25. Their achievements underscore the cultural depth and skilled craftsmanship rooted in the region.
Officials said Ramna Devi won the first prize for her work in Kora Dabka, an indigenous and centuries-old craft of Bhaderwah. She received a cash award of Rs 50000 and a certificate. This is the first time Kora Dabka has been recognised at the Union Territory level, marking a milestone for the rare craft form and those who have preserved it.
In another achievement for the district, Aniza Mushtaq secured the second prize in Paper Machie. She was awarded Rs 30000 and a certificate, highlighting the creative diversity and artistic proficiency present in the region.
The Department of Handicrafts, Doda, congratulated both awardees, noting that their dedication and commitment to traditional crafts continue to strengthen Bhaderwah’s cultural identity. Officials said the recognition is likely to motivate young artisans to explore and revive local craft traditions.
