
SRINAGAR: A 10-year-old girl was among four persons killed after a dumper collided with a Sumo passenger vehicle on the Waterwani stretch of the Budgam Ring Road on Saturday evening, leaving at least seven others injured.
Officials said that the collision occurred with such force that four passengers died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Nisar Hussain (43), his 10-year-old daughter Zainab, Khatoon Begum (55) and Bashir Hussain (30).
Residents, passers-by and police personnel launched an immediate rescue operation, shifting the injured to a nearby hospital. Officials said seven injured persons are currently undergoing treatment, while Police have taken cognisance and begun a detailed investigation into the cause of the crash.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed shock over the incident, stating on X that he had directed the administration to ensure all possible assistance and urgent medical care for the injured. “The cause of the accident shall be thoroughly investigated,” he wrote.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also conveyed deep grief, calling the loss of lives “extremely painful”. “My thoughts are with the bereaved family. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he said in a post on X.
