
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has formally notified rules to provide employment opportunities to ‘outstanding’ sportspersons across the Union Territory, Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma said on Monday.
Sharma, as per reports, said the government remains committed to promoting sports culture and ensuring recognition for talented athletes. “Outstanding sportspersons will now be eligible for government jobs under the newly notified rules,” he announced.
He said the administration’s focus on developing sports infrastructure, the minister said that particular attention is being given to Srinagar’s downtown areas, especially the Khanyar constituency.
“The government under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is striving to provide quality sports facilities for the youth who wish to pursue their passion professionally,” Sharma said, adding that ₹1 crore has been sanctioned for the upgradation of a local playground to strengthen infrastructure.
He further said that these initiatives are part of a broader effort to empower young athletes and create a robust sports ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
