Kupwara: A massive fire broke out in Bakhaya area of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday evening, causing extensive damage to two residential houses before being brought under control.
Officials said that soon after the fire was reported, teams from the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), local police, and Army personnel from a nearby camp rushed to the spot and launched a joint firefighting operation with the help of local residents.
The coordinated efforts of the rescue teams and locals successfully prevented the blaze from spreading to adjacent houses, thereby averting a major tragedy in the densely populated area.
Although property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed, no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.
Police have taken cognizance of the case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire, which is believed to have started due to a possible short circuit.
Local residents have appreciated the timely response of the F&ES, police, Army, and volunteers, whose swift action helped minimize the damage and protect neighboring households.
