
Sopore: Two men on duty at a checkpoint near Chinar Crossing in Sopore were killed on Monday evening after being hit by a speeding vehicle, reports said.
News agency GNS reported that the incident occurred when the duo, deployed at the checkpoint for vehicle checking, were struck by a vehicle bearing registration number JK02BW-2197.
Both injured men were immediately rushed to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sopore, where one of them, identified as Bilal Ahmad (29), son of Wazir Ahmad of Saidpora, was declared dead on arrival. The second victim, Shahid Hilal (25), son of Hilal Ahmad Shah of Nadihal Rafiabad, was referred to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment but later also succumbed to his injuries.
Police have registered a case under FIR No. 233/2025 at Police Station Sopore and initiated an investigation into the incident.
A police official has in the meantime confirmed that the driver of the vehicle has been arrested, and further proceedings are underway.
