Srinagar: The Court of Special Judge NDPS, Srinagar, on Tuesday convicted two drug smugglers, awarding each 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹1 lakh.
The convicts, Mudasir Sultan Bhat alias Majid, son of Mohd. Sultan, a resident of Sir Syed Abad Sector-1, Bemina, and Feroz Ahmad Khan alias Jaja, son of Ab. Samad Khan, resident of Muslim Abad Nundareshi Colony, Bemina, were found guilty in FIR No. 19/2021 registered under Sections 8/22, 29 NDPS Act, and 420, 468, 471 IPC at Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir (ANTF Kashmir).
The case, the agency said, stemmed from a 2021 operation by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Kashmir, during which a large consignment of contraband pharmaceutical drugs was seized, including 7,500 bottles of Z-REX syrup and 9,600 capsules of Zancavit. Following the seizure, a detailed 960-page charge sheet was filed before the court on March 10, 2022, after an extensive, evidence-based investigation.
The investigation, carried out under the close supervision of SSP ANTF J&K, ensured a watertight prosecution that culminated in the conviction. The ANTF J&K has commended the dedicated efforts of its investigating team and the prosecution for ensuring justice.
Terming the verdict a significant step forward, the agency said the conviction sends a strong deterrent message to those involved in drug trafficking and reaffirms the J&K Police’s unwavering resolve to curb the narcotics trade and protect the youth from its devastating impact.
