Visually Challenged Kashmir Players Shine as Army-Organised Match Draws Community Support | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: To support and encourage persons with disabilities, particularly the visually challenged, a cricket match was organised by the 53 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army at Government Higher Secondary School Nagam on Wednesday.

Visually challenged players associated with the Jammu and Kashmir Blind Welfare Trust participated in the match, which was played between Vision Warriors and Zeba Aapa Warriors.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students, staff, and locals from Nagam and adjoining areas, reflecting a strong spirit of inclusivity and sportsmanship.

After winning the toss, Vision Warriors elected to bat first and set a target of 68 runs. In response, Zeba Aapa Warriors delivered an impressive performance, chasing the target in just 6.4 overs to secure a convincing victory. Adil Ahmad emerged as the star performer, scoring an unbeaten 35 runs.

Among those present at the event were Commanding Officer 53 RR Nagam Col Nitin Sharma, Second-in-Command Lt Col Mohsin Kamal, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Chadoora Primrose Bashir, Principal BHSS Nagam Syed Muzaffar Rizvi, social activist Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat, Director Koshish Rouf Malik, Vice Principal JD Khan, and Chairman of Khyber Girls School and JK Blind Welfare Trust Showkat Ahmad Lone.

Showkat Ahmad Lone thanked the Army, Raja Muzaffar Bhat, and the school administration for organising the event. He said that the Deputy Commissioner Budgam and the Commanding Officer 53 RR have assured the Trust of setting up a skill training institute for visually challenged youth in Budgam in the coming months.

Lt Col Mohsin Kamal distributed cash prizes to the winning and runner-up teams, while trophies and medals were presented to players and volunteers by officials present at the event.

Commanding Officer Col Nitin Sharma said the Army would continue to support visually challenged youth through skill training and sports activities, adding that more such initiatives would be undertaken in the coming months.
