Srinagar, Feb 16: Vice President of India C P Radhakrishnan is scheduled to arrive in Kashmir on February 26, where he will grace the 21st convocation of the University of Kashmir (KU) at its main campus in Srinagar.

This will mark the Vice Presidentís maiden visit to Kashmir after assuming office.

He is expected to confer degrees upon 357 scholars during the ceremony.

Among the dignitaries who will be present on the occasion are Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with senior civil and Police officials, members of the universityís faculty, and distinguished guests.

KU authorities said elaborate arrangements were underway to ensure the smooth conduct of the high-profile event.

ìWe are honoured that the Vice President of India has graciously agreed to preside over the 21st Convocation. It is a moment of pride for the university and the entire academic community of Jammu and Kashmir,î a senior KU official here said. ìAll necessary logistical and security arrangements are being coordinated with the civil administration. The event will celebrate the academic achievements of 357 scholars who have completed their degrees.î

Officials said that security and protocol measures were being reviewed in coordination with the J&K administration in view of the Vice Presidentís presence.

KUís 21st convocation was originally scheduled to be held in December 2025.

However, the university had announced its postponement due to the unavailability of dignitaries.

ìIn view of the unavailability of certain dignitaries, the 21st convocation planned for December 2025 could not be conducted as scheduled,î the university had said in an earlier notification.

The institution had extended the online registration process for eligible candidates up to December 26, 2025.

Subsequently, it announced that a fresh date for the convocation would be notified separately.

With the Vice President now confirming his participation, university officials said the event will be held with full ceremonial protocol.

ìThis convocation is not merely a ceremonial gathering but a celebration of academic excellence and perseverance. We look forward to welcoming the Vice President and other distinguished guests to the campus,î the official said.

The forthcoming ceremony is expected to draw significant attention, marking a major academic event for the KU and J&K.
