Vice President arriving in Kashmir for 2-day visit today

Srinagar, Feb 24: Vice President C P Radhakrishnan will arrive in Kashmir on Wednesday evening on a two-day visit to Kashmir, with elaborate security arrangements put in place ahead of his scheduled engagements.

Officials said the Vice President will land at Budgam Airport and proceed directly to Lok Bhawan in Zabarwan hills, where he will stay overnight.

On Thursday morning, the Vice President is scheduled to travel to the University of Kashmir at Hazratbal to attend and address the universityís convocation ceremony.

The event is expected to be attended by top civil and Police officials, faculty members, graduating students, and their families.

In the run-up to the high-profile visit, authorities have made extraordinary security arrangements across Srinagar and adjoining areas.

A comprehensive dry run was conducted on Tuesday along the route from Budgam Airport to Hazratbal to ensure seamless movement of the Vice Presidentís convoy.

Senior Police officers supervised the exercise, reviewing deployment plans and assessing potential vulnerabilities along the route.

Security personnel have been stationed at strategic points, and additional checkpoints have been established to regulate traffic and maintain strict vigil.

Extra nakas have been erected at key intersections, while frisking and vehicle checks have been intensified, particularly around the university campus and other sensitive locations.

Surveillance has also been stepped up, with security agencies coordinating closely to prevent any untoward incident during the visit.

Meanwhile , Traffic Police Srinagar has issued a detailed traffic advisory for February 26 in view of a proposed VVIP visit to the city, announcing temporary restrictions and diversions on several key routes.

According to the advisory, no motorist will be allowed to ply towards Nishat, Shalimar, Harwan and adjacent areas via Badyari Chowk and Gupkar.

Similarly, traffic movement from Ram Munshibagh towards Grand Place will remain suspended and vehicles will be diverted towards Dalgate, Sangermal and Ikhwan Chowk for onward movement.

Authorities said that no traffic will be allowed on the Dalgate, Khayam, Khanyar, Rainawari, Saidkadal and Hazratbal road stretch during the restriction period.

Motorists intending to travel from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat, Ganderbal and adjoining areas towards Lal Chowk have been advised to adopt the Burzahama route via Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakoora, Malbagh, Illahibagh and 90 Feet Road and vice versa.

Those travelling from Dalgate, Lal Chowk and nearby areas towards Harwan, Shalimar and Nishat have been directed to use the Sangermal, Ikhwan Chowk, Nowhatta, 90 Feet and Malbagh road route to reach their destinations.
