Two Women Arrested in South Kashmir Over Illegal Poppy Cultivation | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday formally arrested two women in separate cases related to illegal opium poppy cultivation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to police, Dilshada, wife of Sheikh Musa Qazim and a resident of Wullarhama, was arrested in connection with FIR No. 27/2026 registered under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Pahalgam. The case was registered after authorities detected and destroyed illegal poppy cultivation on land allegedly linked to her, following due legal procedure.

In a separate case, Naseema, widow of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir and a resident of Sofi Pora, was formally arrested in connection with FIR No. 31/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Pahalgam after investigations into alleged illegal poppy cultivation on land under her possession.

Police said both women were arrested after completion of legal formalities and verification of their alleged involvement in cultivation of contraband crops in violation of the NDPS Act.

Anantnag Police said the campaign against illegal poppy cultivation, narcotics trafficking and substance abuse would continue across the district with strict enforcement measures.
