Emergency, scams & appeasement politics define Congress legacy: Gaurav on Rahul’s traitor remark

JK News Today

Jammu, May 20: BJP Spokesperson and Convenor, International Affairs , Gaurav Gupta strongly condemned the remarks made by Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, terming the statement “reckless, disgraceful and anti-democratic.”

Reacting sharply to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks allegedly calling the Prime Minister, Home Minister and BJP “traitors,” Gaurav Gupta said the Congress party itself carries a “dark legacy of attacking democracy, suppressing constitutional rights and compromising national interest for political survival.”

“Rahul Gandhi should first study the history of his own party before making such absurd and insulting remarks against the elected leadership of the country. Congress has no moral authority to lecture anyone on nationalism or democracy,” said Gaurav Gupta

He said one of the biggest examples of Congress’ “anti-democratic mindset” was the imposition of Emergency in 1975 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, during which civil liberties were suspended, opposition leaders jailed, press freedom curbed and democratic institutions suppressed.
“Thousands of political workers were jailed, newspapers censored and democratic voices crushed during the Congress regime. The country has not forgotten how Congress placed personal power above the Constitution and democracy,” he added.

Targeting the Sonia Gandhi-led UPA era, Gaurav Gupta said the Congress government remained surrounded by allegations of massive corruption scandals that damaged India’s global image and weakened public trust in institutions.

He referred to controversies and investigations linked to the 2G spectrum allocation case, Commonwealth Games scam, coal allocation controversy and the ongoing National Herald case involving allegations related to financial irregularities and acquisition of Associated Journals Limited assets by Young Indian, in which Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi reportedly held majority stake.

“The same Congress leadership which remained surrounded by corruption allegations worth thousands of crores is today trying to question the patriotism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has worked tirelessly to strengthen India’s global stature and national security,” he said.

Referring to recent developments in the National Herald matter, Gaurav Gupta said probe agencies and courts have repeatedly examined serious allegations linked to the case.

“In contrast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has elevated India’s stature globally, acted firmly against terrorism and corruption, strengthened India’s diplomatic position and earned worldwide respect for the nation through decisive leadership,” he added.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi further, he alleged that such statements are aimed only at provoking party workers and diverting attention from Congress’ repeated electoral setbacks and internal failures.
“Calling the Prime Minister of India a traitor is not merely an attack on an individual, it is an insult to the democratic mandate given by the people of this country,” said Gaurav Gupta.

He warned opposition leaders to maintain dignity in political discourse and refrain from using language that damages democratic traditions and lowers the standard of public debate.
