SRINAGAR: Activist Sonam Wangchuk on Tuesday announced that he would join a proposed protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on June 6 if no action is taken by June 5 on demands raised by the Cockroach Janta Party, including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Wangchuk made the announcement through posts on social media platforms X and Instagram, saying he had held discussions with the group’s founder, Abhijeet Dipke, and reviewed information and concerns shared by the organisation before extending conditional support to the demonstration.

In a video message, Wangchuk said his decision was driven by broader concerns about the state of education in India rather than any single examination-related issue. While discussions surrounding the protest have included references to examinations such as NEET, CUET and CBSE board processes, he said the matter reflected wider systemic challenges within the education sector.

The education reform advocate stressed the need for meaningful improvements in learning outcomes, particularly in government schools and rural areas. Drawing on his decades-long experience in education initiatives in remote regions, Wangchuk highlighted persistent shortcomings in infrastructure, teaching standards and policy implementation.

The Cockroach Janta Party, which describes itself as a youth-driven and satirical movement, has been campaigning largely through digital platforms on issues related to education governance and examination systems. The organisation has said the June 6 protest will be peaceful and open to individuals who share similar concerns.
