SRINAGAR: Fresh snowfall in several higher reaches of Kashmir, coupled with rainfall in the plains, led to a drop in temperatures across the Valley on Sunday.
According to reports, snow was recorded in the Tulail area of Gurez Valley in Bandipora district, on both sides of Zojila Pass in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district, and along the Mughal Road connecting Shopian with the Poonch-Rajouri region.
The plains witnessed light to moderate rainfall during the early hours of the day. A Meteorological Department official said the weather is likely to improve later in the day.
He added that the snowfall and rain have brought down the daytime temperature by a couple of degrees.
Due to fresh snowfall, several key roads, including the Mughal Road, Srinagar-Kargil Road and Bandipora-Gurez Road, have been closed for traffic.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast partly to generally cloudy weather across Jammu and Kashmir, with intermittent spells of light rain and thundershowers expected at several places.
