SRINAGAR: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Anantnag on Monday resumed its search operation for the second consecutive day to trace and retrieve the body of a 42-year-old Srinagar man who is feared to have drowned in the Lidder River while attempting to rescue his son in Pahalgam.
The missing man has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Mir, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir, a resident of Ikhrajpora, Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar.
According to officials, the incident occurred near the Langanbal area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday.
The family was reportedly taking photographs on the banks of the Lidder River near Kolahoi Green Hotel when Mir’s son, Fahad, accidentally slipped into the fast-flowing river.
In an attempt to save his son, Mir jumped into the water but was swept away by the strong current, officials said.
Soon after the incident, rescue teams launched a search operation, which continued through Sunday. The operation was resumed on Monday morning, with SDRF personnel continuing efforts to locate the body.
