SRINAGAR: A rusted mortar shell was recovered near a river in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday and was later safely defused by security personnel, officials said.
According to officials, the unexploded shell was spotted in Jogger’s Park by a youth who had gone for a morning walk near the Pulastya River, close to the Sher-i-Kashmir Bridge on the outskirts of Poonch town.
The individual immediately alerted police, following which an Army bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot. The area was cordoned off and the shell was safely defused without any damage or injury, officials added.
Authorities have launched a routine inspection of the surrounding area to ensure there are no further unexploded remnants.
