SRINAGAR: With the March 31 deadline for payment of water bills approaching, the Jammu Municipal Corporation has launched a citywide drive to boost revenue collection and clear pending dues, officials said.

Commissioner Devansh Yadav issued directives to ensure maximum public participation and streamline the billing process. In response, the Jal Shakti Department, particularly Divisions 1 and 2, has initiated an extensive awareness and facilitation campaign across the city.

As part of the effort, 12 camps have been set up at multiple locations to educate residents on timely bill payments and provide on-the-spot payment facilities. Under Division 1, camps are operational at Roopnagar, Dhonthli, Resham Ghar, Janipur and Hazuri Bagh, while Division 2 has established camps at Kunjwani, Trikuta Nagar, Sainik Colony, Digiana Ashram, Channi Himmat, Channi Rama and Greater Kailash. Officials said the camps have witnessed active public participation, with staff assisting residents and resolving queries.

Authorities said nearly Rs 30 crore in water dues remain outstanding across Jammu division, affecting the department’s ability to maintain and upgrade infrastructure. The initiative aims to improve revenue realisation while encouraging civic responsibility among consumers.

Appealing to the public, officials urged residents to utilise the camps and clear dues well before the deadline to avoid inconvenience. Executive Engineer Tajinder Pal Singh warned that strict action may be taken against defaulters after the due date, including possible disconnection of water supply.
