JAMMU: The Northern Railways on Tuesday announced the cancellation of 22 trains scheduled for Wednesday from Jammu and Katra railway stations, while 27 others were short-terminated due to relentless rains battering the region.

Officials said nine of the cancelled trains originate from Katra, the base camp of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, and one from Jammu. The rest were bound for Katra, Jammu, and Udhampur.

“Twenty-seven trains have been short-terminated today in view of the prevailing weather conditions,” said the Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, Jammu Division.

The Jammu region has been witnessing its heaviest rainfall in decades since Monday, recording over 250 mm in less than 24 hours. The downpour has triggered floods, landslides, and extensive damage to roads, bridges, and farmlands, forcing many residents to move to safer areas.

Train services between Pathankot and Kandrori in Himachal Pradesh were also suspended after flash floods and soil erosion damaged tracks near the Chakki River. Several trains were short-terminated at Firozpur, Manda, Chak Rakhwalan, and Pathankot.

However, officials confirmed that train operations on the Katra-Srinagar stretch remain unaffected.
