SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have detained eight drug peddlers under preventive provisions of law after obtaining due approval from the Executive Magistrates.

Officials said the individuals were repeat offenders involved in narcotics-related activities and continued illegal trade despite earlier legal action. Their activities were described as a threat to public health, particularly among youth.

Acting under preventive detention laws, police detained all eight accused and lodged them in Subsidiary Jail Kehribal, Anantnag.

Police said the action is aimed at curbing drug trafficking and preventing further spread of substance abuse in the district. They added that efforts against drug networks will continue with strict enforcement and public cooperation.
