Police Denounce Social Media Rumours on Nowgam Explosion

SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday clarified reports circulating on social media regarding the accidental explosion at Police Station Nowgam, describing them as “conjectures” and attempts to mislead the public.

The incident occurred on November 14, 2025 during the collection of samples from a large cache of recovered explosives for forensic examination by experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory. Authorities emphasised that the explosion was accidental.

A high-level committee was constituted on November 16, 2025 by the government to investigate the incident. The committee is chaired by the Principal Secretary of the Home Department and includes the IG of Kashmir Zone, the District Magistrate of Srinagar, and a senior scientist from the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory, Government of India.

Police reiterated that all ongoing investigations and safety measures are being conducted under strict supervision to ensure public safety and transparency.
