SRINAGAR: PHE Employees United Front, Jammu Province, on Wednesday staged a protest at the Old Chief Engineer Office on BC Road, alleging that the government has failed to fulfil commitments made to the employees.

Raising slogans and holding placards, the protesters criticized what they termed a non-serious approach of the Jammu and Kashmir government during the ongoing budget session. They said several long-pending demands of PHE employees continue to remain unresolved despite repeated assurances.

The United Front leaders said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had last year promised the formation of a committee to examine the issues concerning daily wagers and other categories of workers. However, they alleged that no concrete steps have been taken so far.

The protesters demanded immediate regularization of services and job security for employees working in the department for years. They urged the government to honour its commitments and initiate time-bound measures to address their grievances.

The demonstrators warned that if their demands are not addressed promptly, they would be compelled to intensify their agitation in the coming days. [KNT]
