Jammu, Jan 26: The Republic Day celebrations were held on Monday across the Jammu division amid elaborate security arrangements.

Impressive celebrations featured march-past by the contingents, band performances and scintillating cultural programmes highlighting national unity and regional diversity.

The celebrations, as per official statements, were held smoothly across the Jammu region, reflecting the seamless preparedness of the respective administrations.

In Poonch, the 77th Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at the Sports Stadium, Poonch, where Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana unfurled the National Flag.

Addressing the gathering, the minister congratulated the people of Poonch on Republic Day and underlined the significance of the Indian Constitution in empowering the citizens to democratically elect their government. He paid rich tributes to the bravery and resilience displayed by the people of Poonch during Operation Sindoor, describing their courage and sacrifices as unparalleled.

MLA Haveli Ajaz Ahmad Jan, Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch Shafkat Bhat, DDC Members Ch. Abdul Ghani and Ch. In Kathua, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, Information Technology, Science & Technology, ARI & Trainings, Satish Sharma extended warm greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, recalling the nation’s constitutional values, sacrifices of freedom fighters and the collective resolve to build a strong and inclusive India.

The minister hoisted the Tricolour and took salute at the march past of contingents drawn from the police, paramilitary forces, college and school students at Sports Stadium Kathua.

Addressing the gathering, the minister said that Republic Day is not merely a national holiday but a reminder of the day in 1950 when the Constitution of India came into force after nearly three years of dedicated effort under the leadership of Dr B. R. Ambedkar. He noted that January 26 also holds historic significance as the day when the pledge of ‘Purna Swaraj’ was taken in 1930.

The minister also felicitated martyr families, meritorious students and achievers in different fields and extraordinary public service delivery.

District Development Council Chairperson, Udhampur, Lal Chand unfurled the National flag at Government PG Degree College Boys, Udhampur and took the salute at an impressive march-past comprising 31 contingents drawn from District Police, SKPA, Volunteer Home Guards, NCC and Police Band.

DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Sarah Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai, SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure, ADDC Jugal Kishore, DDC members, ADC Prem Singh, besides senior officers from the District Administration, Police, Army, BSF, CRPF, Air Force and prominent citizens of the district were present on the occasion.

District Development Council, Chairperson Pooja Thakur unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade and took the salute of the March Past at the main event held at the Mini Secretariat, New DC Office Complex. Contingents drawn from JK Police, IRP, CRPF, CISF, Forest Protection Force, Home Guards, Girls’ and Boys’ NCC Battalions of GDC and children from various schools presented an impressive march past.
