“Under the new Parcel Trans-shipment Policy introduced by the Railway Board, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway has achieved a significant milestone in streamlining freight movement and logistics operations. Pursuant to this historic decision, facilities for transferring parcels from one train to another are now available at specific, notified stations within the Jammu Division. Consequently, the transit time for the movement of goods has been substantially reduced,” informed Raghvender Singh, Public Relations Inspector, Jammu Railway Division.

As a result, he said, the trading community within the Jammu Railway Division would be able to reap immense benefits from this new facility. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) Jammu Railway Division, Uchit Singhal, while reflecting on this beneficial policy, stated, “The primary objective of this policy is to promote ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and to boost the Railways’ revenue. Previously, merchants faced logistical hurdles due to existing restrictions; however, thanks to this reform, the entire supply chain has now been streamlined.”

He urged the trading community and passengers to avail themselves of the maximum benefits offered under this policy. To illustrate the changes introduced by the Railway’s Parcel Trans-shipment Policy, Singhal said, “Previously, if one wished to send a parcel from Jammu to Kanyakumari, it was only possible if there was a direct train service connecting the two cities. Otherwise, such a shipment was not feasible. However, under the new policy, one can now book shipments even for destinations that do not have a direct train connection. The parcel will be unloaded at a designated junction station and subsequently transported to one’s final destination station via a connecting train.”

Elaborating on the key benefits of this Parcel Trans-shipment Policy, Singhal said that the facility would lead to a significant reduction in parcel delivery times, thereby ensuring the timely supply of goods for traders and e-commerce companies.

“Previously, due to the lack of direct connectivity, the transfer of parcels from one train to another was not permitted—a restriction that frequently resulted in delays. Now, at designated stations, it has become possible to transfer goods between dedicated parcel trains and leased parcel vans,” he said.

Singhal asserted that the decision proved to be a “game-changer,” particularly for the transport of fruits, vegetables, and other time-sensitive commodities, as it offered a faster and more cost-effective alternative compared to road transport.

“For e-commerce companies and small businesses, transporting goods via rail—even to smaller stations—has now become both easy and affordable,” he said.
