Jammu, 16 April 2026: A panel discussion on the theme “The True Spirit of Equality in Contemporary Bharat”, focusing on Equality in the eyes of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, was jointly organized by the Equal Opportunity Cell and the Department of Education at Central University of Jammu. The event was organized under the patronage of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor.

Prof. Asit Mantry formally welcomed the panelists, especially Dr. Shweata Yadav, Associate Professor, Dept. of Environmental Sciences, CUJ, and Prof. Ritu Bakshi, DSW.

Dr. Shweta Yadav was then introduced as the main theme of discussion, followed by the student panelists Siya Sharma, Akashnie Rajput, Manya and Priyanshu Kumari. Each of the panelists has presented their perspectives on equality inspired by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

Akashnie Rajput highlighted Ambedkar’s political thoughts, emphasizing the importance of justice, liberty, and equality in a democratic society. Siya Sharma elaborated on equality through the lens of equal rights and the eradication of caste-based discrimination, stressing that true equality can only be achieved when social barriers are removed.Priyanshu Kumari, speaking in Hindi, reflected on the concepts of samanta and samta, and recalled Ambedkar’s powerful message: “Shikshit raho, sangathit raho, sangharsh karte raho”, encouraging education, unity, and continuous struggle for rights.

Manya focused on the need for equal opportunities for all, pointing out that many individuals remain backward due to caste-based inequalities. She stressed the importance of equity and highlighted the need to uplift weaker sections of society, including women, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes.

In her address, Chief Guest Dr. Shweta Yadav appreciated the panelists for their insightful views. She emphasized that equality is not just about providing equal opportunities but also about valuing each individual. She pointed out that discrimination often begins within society and among individuals, and must be addressed internally. She encouraged students to give their best in whatever capacity they hold and to contribute positively towards building an inclusive society. The event served as an enlightening platform for students to engage with the ideals of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and reflect on their relevance in contemporary Bharat. Dr. Kiran, Associate Professor in Education, delivered the formal vote of thanks.
