SRINAGAR: Residents of Pampore have raised concerns over delays and alleged irregularities in the ongoing footpath construction project in the town, claiming that work remains incomplete nearly a year after it began.

Locals said the pace of work has been slow and that construction is being carried out in areas with limited pedestrian movement, including stretches near the river bunds and upper Galander, while several populated areas lacking footpaths remain unattended.

According to residents, key locations such as Kadlabal Chowk and the area near the Post Office at Drangbal, where pedestrian movement is high, have not been covered under the ongoing works. They alleged that no clear explanation has been provided by the authorities or contractors regarding the delay in these areas.

Residents further claimed that work was being prioritised in locations with easier access instead of busy market areas and densely populated localities where footpaths are required on a daily basis.

The project, involving expenditure worth crores of rupees, was initiated for the development of footpaths in Pampore town. Locals also alleged uneven construction and lack of proper levelling at several spots.

Residents have urged the administration to monitor the execution of the project and ensure proper utilisation of public funds.
