
SRINAGAR: An oil tanker overturned on the Srinagar–Leh Highway bypass in the Watlar area of Ganderbal district on Wednesday morning, resulting in an oil spill and prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Officials said the tanker, bearing registration number PB02FB2307, lost control near the Watlar bypass and overturned along the roadside.
The driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident.
The incident caused a significant oil spill on the highway, raising concerns over traffic disruption and safety risks for commuters on the busy route.
Teams from the Fire and Emergency Services, along with other concerned departments, rushed to the spot soon after the incident and launched operations to contain the spill and secure the area.
Authorities have initiated efforts to clear the affected stretch and regulate vehicular movement to prevent further inconvenience.
