SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Additional General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Chowdry Muhammad Ramzan on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that despite its public posturing, the party’s “political umbilical cord” with the BJP remains intact and continues to surface through calculated political manoeuvres aimed at weakening the larger democratic struggle of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing party functionaries and office-bearers at the National Conference headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, in Srinagar, Ramzan said the “political choreography” between the PDP and BJP becomes visible whenever the National Conference intensifies its campaign for restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional, political and democratic rights.

The meeting witnessed discussions on organisational affairs, prevailing public concerns and the party’s future political roadmap. MLA Ali Mohammad Dar, District President Srinagar Peer Afaq Ahmad and Neelofar Masood were also present.

Ramzan said history bears witness to what he described as a recurring pattern in which forces opposed to the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir attempt to create political distractions whenever the National Conference takes the lead in a major political movement.

“Whenever the National Conference prepares for a larger constitutional battle or assumes a more assertive role in championing the rights of Jammu and Kashmir, surrogate political formations suddenly become hyperactive. The 1999 Autonomy Resolution was countered by the emergence of the PDP, whose primary objective was to fragment public opinion and dilute a united political voice,” he said.

Referring to the National Conference Legislature Party’s decision to pursue the issue of restoration of statehood and democratic guarantees, Ramzan alleged that the PDP had once again launched a campaign of “diversion and obfuscation”.

He said the PDP’s politics had consistently revolved around creating confusion and political ambiguity while indirectly benefiting forces seeking to weaken Jammu and Kashmir’s distinct constitutional and political identity.

“This is a familiar script. It is the politics of disruption masquerading as dissent. Every time the National Conference raises its voice for the dignity, rights and aspirations of the people, certain local collaborators and political proxies spring into action to muddy the waters and fracture public unity. Their objective is not empowerment of the people but preservation of a political ecosystem that thrives on confusion and contradiction,” he said.
