Sogam: National Lok Adalat held at the Munsiff Court, Sogam, Lolab on Saturday (December 13, 2025), recorded notable success by disposing of more than 215 cases in a single day, with officials putting the settlements amounting to approximately ₹1.17 crore.
A substantial portion of the recovered amount, as learnt by Alfaaz – The Words, was settled through the amicable resolution of electricity bill disputes. These matters were settled in the presence of officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) and the concerned consumers, offering immediate relief to electricity defaulters while simultaneously ensuring significant revenue recovery for the department.
The Lok Adalat was conducted under the chairmanship of Judicial Magistrate (Munsiff), Sogam Lolab, Mudasir Yousuf, along with Advocate Sameer Ahmad Khan as Member.
On the occasion, the Chairperson emphasised the importance of Lok Adalats as an effective alternative dispute resolution mechanism, noting that such platforms provide speedy, cost-effective, and amicable justice, reduce case pendency, and enhance public trust in the judicial system.
In addition to electricity-related matters, several other categories of cases were also taken up and successfully disposed of during the day-long proceedings, reflecting the wide scope and effectiveness of the National Lok Adalat.
The successful conduct of the Lok Adalat was widely appreciated by litigants and other stakeholders, who commended the judiciary and the District Legal Services Authority for delivering justice in a swift, transparent, and citizen-friendly manner.
