MLA Lolab Hails Machil Tunnel Approval, Promises Improved Connectivity

Srinagar: MLA Lolab, Qaysar Jamshaid Lone, on Thursday welcomed the government’s approval of the Machil tunnel project, calling it a significant step towards improving connectivity in the region.

According to an official reply in the Assembly, the tunnel connecting Machil sector to the hinterland at Z-Gali has been approved, with preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) proposed for inclusion in the Annual Works Plan 2026–27.

Lone congratulated the residents of Machil Valley on this development, noting the project’s potential to provide all-weather connectivity and ease hardships during harsh winters. He emphasized that the tunnel is vital for enhancing regional connectivity, boosting economic prospects, and unlocking the area’s full potential.

The government has assured that the proposal for the Lolab–Bandipora tunnel is being actively pursued with the Government of India.

The MLA also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, and Additional Chief Secretary R&B/PWD Anil Singh for supporting the long-pending project.
