SRINAGAR: To assist passengers stranded due to frequent flight cancellations, the Jammu division of Northern Railways on Tuesday announced a special Vande Bharat train service between New Delhi and Udhampur for three days, starting December 12, according to a report in Daily Excelsior.
Recent days saw chaos at Jammu and Srinagar airports as most IndiGo flights from the two aerodromes were cancelled, prompting protests from stranded travellers.
“Jammu Division operates special trains in emergency situations for passenger convenience and safety. Due to the increasing number of passengers affected by frequent flight cancellations, the division has decided to run a special Vande Bharat train between New Delhi and Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan (Udhampur),” Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal told Daily Excelsior.
The special trains — 02439 New Delhi-Udhampur and 02440 Udhampur-New Delhi — will make three trips in each direction between December 12 and 14, offering a safe and cost-effective travel option for passengers. “This will ensure passengers reach their destinations on time and their travel plans are not disrupted,” Singhal added.
Train 02439 will depart New Delhi at 6:00 am, arriving at Udhampur at 2:00 pm with halts at Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Pathankot Cantt, and Jammu Tawi. The return service, Train 02440, will leave Udhampur at 3:00 pm and reach New Delhi at 11:00 pm.
The Vande Bharat will operate with 20 coaches. Passengers have been advised to check accurate train details via the official Indian Railways website or the NTES app before travelling.
