SRINAGAR: Three people fell into the Chenab River in the Mughalmaidan area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir, reportedly due to the absence of a bridge.

Initial reports said that two women were rescued safely by local residents and emergency responders after the fall. However, a four-month-old infant died in the incident, sparking widespread grief and anger among locals.

Residents allege that the lack of a bridge has been a long-standing safety issue in the area. They say repeated appeals to authorities for its construction have gone unaddressed so far.

Locals further noted that despite the area’s political importance and representation at both the national and local levels, basic infrastructure remains inadequate. They stressed that such incidents underline the urgent need for improved connectivity and safety measures.
