Handwara: Handwara Police on Thursday took action and lodged a formal case against a local food outlet after it was found selling ‘unsafe consumables’. The move comes as part of a wider effort to enforce food safety standards and protect public health in the town.
During the inspection led by SDPO Handwara Abdul Hamid Banday, in collaboration with the Revenue and Food Safety Department, M/S Bhat Food Corner, owned by Mohd Aslam Fareedi, was allegedly found stocking and selling noxious food items unfit for human consumption.
A case vide FIR (No. 204/2025) was registered at Police Station Handwara under Sections 271 and 275 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Police in the meantime reiterated their commitment to maintaining a hygienic marketplace and cautioned that strict legal action will continue against those dealing in substandard or harmful food products. Citizens have also been urged to remain vigilant and report any violations.
