Srinagar: The Food Safety Department has prohibited the sale, storage and distribution of raisins packed by Winsome Foods, Rainawari, after laboratory tests found pesticide residues exceeding prescribed safety limits.

According to an order issued by the Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, samples of the product were lifted by the Food Safety Officer, Zone III Srinagar, from a retail outlet in Zakura. The sample, bearing batch number WRN10, with packing date October 2025 and expiry October 2026, was sent for analysis to the National Food Testing Laboratory, Ghaziabad.

The test report, dated December 15, 2025, declared the product unsafe for consumption due to the presence of pesticide residues, specifically the combined levels of Benomyl and Carbendazim, found above the permissible limits.

In exercise of powers under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the department has ordered an immediate ban on the sale, storage, distribution and display of the affected batch of raisins within the jurisdiction of Srinagar district until further orders.

All food business operators, wholesalers and retailers have been directed to immediately stop selling the product and submit details of the available stock to the department within three days.

The order further states that the manufacturer retains the statutory right to seek re analysis of the sample from any FSSAI notified laboratory, as provided under the Act.
