SRINAGAR: Four persons were arrested with 71.95 grams of heroin in Udhampur district during routine vehicle checking on Wednesday, police said.
According to a police statement, a team from Police Post Tikri, led by the in-charge post officer, intercepted a vehicle at Tikri Naka Point on the National Highway. The vehicle, bearing registration number JK15C-2964, was travelling from Jammu towards Srinagar when it was stopped for checking.
During the search, police recovered 71.95 grams of heroin-like substance (Chitta) from the possession of four individuals onboard. All four were taken into custody on the spot.
“The arrested have been identified as Mohd Younis Malla, son of Mohd Yaqoob Malla, resident of Shilvat, Bandipora; Wahid Maqbool, son of Mohd Maqbool Mir, resident of Sumbal, Bandipora; Qaiser Ahmed Ganie, son of Nisar Ahmed, resident of Arampora Sumbal, Bandipora; and Ahmed Ganie, son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, resident of Shilvat Sumbal, Bandipora,” police said.
Police said that an FIR (No. 117/2025) under sections 8, 21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Rehambal, and further investigation is underway.
